This quote from Mahatma Gandhi made me think about a concept I have never thought about. So, these are my thoughts about it:
It’s not going to do any good for me to just complain about the way things are in the world if I don’t model the way I want the world to be.
Now I know that just because I model what I desire the world to be, it’s not going to change because of me, but if everyone who is complaining about the way the world is were change themselves to model what the world should be, then pretty soon the world would be changed little by little because I don’t know anyone that likes the world as it is with all the hate and violence there is.
If everyone that I know would model what the world should look like, and everyone they knew followed in their footsteps, it would spread a little more as time went by. Maybe not as fast as I would like it, and maybe not in my lifetime, but eventually it would make the world a better place for later generations.
I realize this idea sounds impossible, but this quote made me think. I can only change myself. I can’t change my family and friends, or anyone for that matter. I am only responsible for myself. I wish and hope that I impact others in a positive way, but I can’t control that.
So, it starts within myself, and maybe just maybe I will impact others to think about this concept. I really desire to impact others through my writing, not only here, but with my memoir I am writing, also. Whether I do succeed with that desire or not is out of my control. All I can do is try.
