Amidst the fragmented scenes of my mind;
memory’s puzzle with pieces I must find.
Flashbacks whisper, “Remember me?”
Transports me to what used to be.
Smells of the oceans or aroma of pine,
uncovers memories that intertwine.
A doorway creaks, a childhood room,
Memories of impending doom.
Father’s voice, a blazing fire.
A small trigger with just a lighter.
Sunshine becomes a raging storm
Hopes fleeting glimpse of safety worn.
Mixed in the tapestry, hope resides.
As I unravel the pain that’s inside.
An identity lost among confusion,
Ripping away my right to be human.
I rise above angry condemnation.
Finding truth, a new revelation.
With glimpses of happiness before me,
I fight with all my might to be free.
