Over the fading flames we sit.

Our bodies are close to the barely flaming fire.

A symbol of love that’s beyond repair.

Our souls lack the passion that once was brighter.

Our hearts were once intertwined with

promise that we would never part.

The ring, a symbol of a future together,

Now just a symbol of a broken heart.

Released into lifeless embers.

Lying dead like a fake jewel.

The fire is only a pile of smoke

unable to spark love’s renewal.

I must say the sorrowful words

that bid them farewell.

May they find true love that lasts,

a love where commitment dwells.
