Changing the Narrative

Memories spark a shameful blaze.

Of a past that wasn’t a simple phase.

Rivers of emotions rushing through.

Daring to look back at you.

Igniting a flame that will never cease.

Like a pressure cooker needing release.

My mind fights an endless war.

My heart says, “no more.”

A sound, smell, place, brings the chaos to life.

A word, a glare, causes strife.

I refuse to cave or give in,

I am a warrior, determined to win.

Bringing back the long-forgotten past.

I am a survivor, at last.

I am changing the narrative I speak.

Breaking the chains that make me weak.
