What’s something most people don’t understand?

Something most people don’t understand is dissociative identity disorder. A lot of people think they know what DID is, but most of that is based on TV and movies, and those portrayals are usually pretty dramatic and not very accurate. In my real life with DID, it’s a lot quieter and less obvious. I don’t have huge, theatrical switches where my whole personality suddenly changes in front of everyone. Instead, like many people with DID, I’ve learned how to hide it and blend in so most people have no idea what’s going on inside. I’m not speaking from theory or something I watched on a screen; I’m speaking from my own lived experience.

  1. Thank you for being brave and strong enough to share. I’ve found that often there are other quiet folks out there that truly benefit from others sharing their personal experiences – Thanks!

    1. You’re very welcome. I’m sure there are lots of people living quietly with DID. I hope I can bring some comfort to them.
