The Inner World of Kelly Dawn

Welcome to my world with dissociative identity disorder. Dissociative identity disorder, to me and my system (all the identities that exist in my body), is not a disorder in our opinion. It is a gift that made it possible for us to survive painful and traumatizing experiences in our childhood and into our adult years. Trauma affects everyone differently, and we believe trauma and abuse are not measured according to severity. Each person’s level of tolerance to traumatic experiences varies. What might not be traumatic to one person might be life-shattering to another. Dissociative Identity Disorder, the ability to split into different parts, has been a blessing to our life. My insiders, also known as alter personalities, navigate life as a team.
Our healing
Many of us within our system are writers. We write about our thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and our healing process. We each are in different places of healing. Some are further along than others. Many of us have the dream of being a published writer, and have actually gotten several of our writing published. Our work can be found on SpillWords, Academy of the Heart, and Agape Review. Some writings are about our pain, some are about our faith, some are about our struggle to accept our sexuality, and many other aspects of our healing. We are on a path towards complete healing and becoming free to be the person we were born to be.

Medical News Today’s Definition of Dissociative Identity Disorder:
Dissociative identity disorder (DID) is a mental health condition in which two or more distinct identities, or personality states, are present in—and alternately take control of—an individual. The person may experience memory loss, delusions, depression, or a sense of possession by other identities. DID is usually caused by past trauma. It was previously known as multiple personality disorder.
