Rising above:

Once shattered to pieces,

A young woman’s nightmare.

Violated and ashamed,

A soul beyond repair.

She fought for her freedom,

With hands that held her captive.

It went on for what seemed like hours,

She strives for a new perspective.

Her mind is held hostage,

With the memories of the fears.

She tries so strong,

She tries to hold back the tears.

It’s haunted her for years.

She never feels at peace.

Nor did she get any justice,

She longs for some kind of release.

But she is a fighter,

And won’t let them steal her life.

She is a rape survivor,

But will find a way to end her strife.

Held inside her secrets for years,

She is finally sharing her truth.

To break the chain of silence,

She may have been 21, but just slightly older than youth.

She may have been young,

But she had the strength of a warrior.

Those bastards may have destroyed her innocence,

But she will rise above the horror.
