The Search for God
Past beliefs have held me tight,
Blinding my faith-filled sight.
A God I feared now is seeking,
Simplicity of faith of me believing.
Open to a God of love,
A faith that soars as free as a dove.
Trying to let go of the shame that binds,
Putting the rules and fears behind.
My heart yearns for a God I can trust,
Who loves me for the heart that I entrust.
I search for truth beyond the religion of rules,
A simple love becomes my footstool.
Why do they preach of a God of complexity,
When Jesus said faith is the only necessity.
A God of love, compassion, and grace.
It is all of me that he does embrace.
So, I open my eyes and see a God
who allows me to shed my façade.
For that’s what religion produced,
But a new kind of faith he introduced.
