This quote from Dr. Henry Link made me see a positive in what I see as a negative emotion…fear.

I have let fear control my life in so many ways, but what if I use that fear to push myself to do something positive in my life? I have never really thought about fear in this way.

I have a huge fear of gaining weight due to my eating disorder, which often leads me into unhealthy habits, affecting my health and my wellbeing in a negative way.

I am trying to change this and learn that food is not my enemy. My therapist says that I have an all or nothing perspective. Either I binge eat, and then purge or I don’t eat anything at all. All centered around that fear of gaining weight.

But this quote makes me think that my fear can create a different action. Eating healthy and exercising. I don’t have to give up my fear of gaining weight, but I can use that fear to make healthy choices.

I am not saying that this quote fixed all my problems, and cured me of my eating disorder, but it did make me think a little about my fear.

I realize that fear doesn’t necessarily have to be negative unless I choose to make it so. Fear can be my motivation to do something productive, if I will only let it.

That’s something I plan to think about for a while. Why does it have to be all or nothing? Why can’t there be a middle ground? A balance.

I am going to think on this, journal about this, and talk about this for a while and see if I can turn my fear into action and make better choices.

  2. I agree, fear can be good, if used correctly, turning fear into something positive, now that is a good idea!
