In the peace of winter’s night,

excited children fast asleep.

Snowflakes fall; what a beautiful sight.

Moments like these I want to keep.

The twinkling of lights on trees glow.

A beacon of solace for the soul.

Casting away the burdens we know.

Christmas Eve makes us whole.

The sweetness of children’s dreams.

Dreaming of Santa through the chimney.

Knowing the wishes of the children, it seems.

Careful not to wake Daddy and Mommy.

On Christmas Day children bolt out of bed.

Tearing wrapping paper as fast as they can.

“Slow down, kids,” Mommy said.

They weren’t about to stop what they began.

Toy trucks and trains and dolls for the girls,

Make the children shout in joy.

Their little minds begin to swirl.

They cherish the moment and their new toy.

The family gathers around the fire

with a cup of hot cocoa in their hands.

They relish the love they so desire.

They escape from chaos to faraway lands.

If only this joy could last all year,

but the business of life gets in the way.

Christmas seems to wipe away every tear.

Forever at this moment, I wish I could stay.
