A New Creation: Leaving Shame Behind

Introduction:

When we step out in faith and believe in Christ, we are a new creation. Our souls that were once dead are now alive. We have been born again, and our old life of pain is gone:

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” NIV

Scriptural Reflection:

In 2 Corinthians, the apostle Paul addressed the church in Corinth, offering encouragement and emphasizing reconciliation and the transforming power of life in Christ. This verse affirms that if we are in Christ, we have been transformed.

Our lives of insecurities, doubts, depression, anxiety, or fear, self-hatred, or shame have no place in our lives anymore, because our life is now secured in Christ alone. We can celebrate the rebirth of our souls. What does it mean to you to be a new creation?

Personal Reflection:

I have battled with severe depression and anxiety for much of my life. Self-hatred and shame consumed me, and I felt worthless and hopeless. My soul was dead, and I needed Christ to bring it to life.

I had accepted Jesus into my heart, but I didn’t truly understand what that meant for me. I still believed the lies that who I am is not acceptable or lovable. It wasn’t until I began to seek out a personal relationship with Christ that I finally understood the transforming power of what happened when I put my faith in Christ and received him into my heart. Have you experienced the transforming power of Christ in your life?

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank you for making us a new creation when we believe in Christ, our savior. We thank you for letting us let go of the pain, anxiety, fear, shame, and self-hatred that once lived in our hearts. We proclaim our new creation in you and the freedom it gives us.

In Jesus’ name, Amen
