If you could pick any fictional animal to be your lifelong companion (like a Pokémon or fantasy pet), what would it be?
If I could choose any fictional animal as my lifelong companion, I would choose Elliott from Pete’s Dragon. Elliott is gentle, protective, funny, and has an incredibly good heart. What makes him so special to me is that he becomes Pete’s best friend during one of the most difficult times in Pete’s life. When Pete is struggling with loneliness, rejection, and trauma, Elliott is there for him. He protects him from bullies, stands by him when he has no one else, and brings joy, comfort, and laughter back into his life when he needs it most.
I also love that Elliott encourages Pete to open his heart to the people who care about him. He’s proud of Pete and wants him to accept the love and support being offered to him. While the ending of the movie is touching, I wouldn’t want Elliott to disappear from my life completely. Instead, I would want him to visit regularly so we could keep that special bond while I continued building meaningful relationships in my everyday life. To me, Elliott represents the kind of friend everyone hopes to have: loyal, encouraging, and there exactly when they’re needed most.
