At three weeks old, they were nothing more than terrified bundles of fur, huddled together beneath a house in the dead heat of summer, abandoned to a fate they did not understand. The world had not been kind to them yet. Then, somehow, our lives crossed paths, and everything changed. What began as fear slowly gave way to trust. With full bellies, soft places to sleep, gentle hands, and the freedom to explore a world far larger than the shadows they had known, they blossomed. They became mischievous and playful, curious and brave, transforming into the precious little souls they were always meant to be.
JJ amazes me with his intelligence. He carries his favorite rattle mouse to me and drops it at my feet, waiting expectantly for a game of fetch as though somewhere deep inside him lives the spirit of a golden retriever. One moment he is chaos wrapped in fur, racing through the house with unstoppable energy; the next, he is all cuddles and affection. Journey walks a different path. In many ways, she reminds me of myself: restless, anxious yet secure in who she is, feisty, and unafraid to let the world know when she has had enough. She is independent and proud, carrying herself with quiet confidence. Together, they fill my days with laughter, comfort, and companionship. They have touched my heart in ways they will never fully know, and I like to think that somewhere behind their whiskers and watchful eyes, they know just how deeply they are loved.
