The day won’t sit still;
time escapes me.
I’m trapped within my mind.
Black clouds, I cannot see.
My legs tap to a fast beat;
my fists clench, ready to fight.
A painted smile on my face
keeps my rage from sight.
Like a train with no brakes,
I am a storm that never ends.
Shooting lightning strikes from above,
my heart is slow to mend.
The ticking of the clock is
a drill digging into my brain.
I try to keep myself together,
but I feel I might go insane.
So I count each breath,
slowly exhaling the fire.
This dance I take each morning,
is like balancing on a wire.
One, two, three inhales,
exhaling a breath of relief.
I can survive this raging sea,
if I only believe.
