What’s a book or movie that genuinely scared you?

As a lifelong horror fan, it is rare for a movie to truly scare me. I can watch most horror movies late at night and still be able to sleep afterward.

Horror is entertainment for me. It’s unsettling in the best way. However, Evil Dead Rise genuinely scared me. The movie follows two sisters who reunite when a supernatural force is unleashed after the discovery of an ancient book. Set primarily within an apartment building, the story centers on a demonic force that possesses members of the family.

While stories about possession, whether based on true events or not, do not usually frighten me, this movie was different. The imagery is so extreme and intense that it stayed in my mind long after I watched it, making it difficult to sleep.

Of course, I eventually put on my big girl pants and watched it again about a week later, and I even went to see the newest movie in theaters.

While the fear eventually faded, Evil Dead Rise lingered with me longer than most horror films ever have, which is a testament to the filmmakers’ ability to create a truly memorable and unsettling experience.
