Your reflection in the mirror

blends with images of you and me.

I am not my own person in your eyes,

only your feelings are what you see.

I can’t have my own sense of identity,

it’s always chained and bound to you.

Perfection you expect, I cannot fail.

That’s so much pressure that I go through.

I search for validation of my pain,

but only yours is what counts.

I’m tired and stretched to the limit.

I have nothing left, not even an ounce.

I need to end this suffocating enmeshment.

Becoming my own person, I am going to fight.

With my own feelings, opinions, and dreams.

Finding out who I am is not in your sight.

Your love is only conditional.

You say you love who I am completely.

But my identity is molded by you.

You don’t see who I am uniquely.

I am breaking out of your mold,

And becoming my own person.

Separated from you,

a new life, a new version.
