Little One’s Fears
Eyes wide open, unable to sleep.
Listening for footsteps that creep.
A prisoner of her fears in her head,
fearing the inevitable dread.
Shadows on the wall give her fright;
what will come through the door is a frightful sight.
Her world is dark with the same old fears,
she tries her best to hide the tears.
Her three years of life have been living hell,
struggling to keep her promise not to tell.
A fragile soul trembles with fear;
it’s a pain that will haunt her year after year.
She dreams of a world where love lives.
She barely hangs on; she has nothing to give.
She hopes her fears will subside
in a world she doesn’t have to hide.
It’s a beacon of strength she holds dear.
Someday, a rescuer will come to wipe away her tears.
She dreams of being safe at last
and hopes that dream will come fast.
A fearful little one, learning to be bold.
And hopes for an angel that she can hold.
