What are your favorite side-hustle ideas?
One side-hustle idea I have considered for a long time is selling my painted rocks. I love arts and crafts, and rock painting has become one of my favorite creative outlets. The only things that have held me back are my own insecurities about whether my work is good enough and the fact that I become attached to my creations. After spending hours on a piece, it can be surprisingly hard to let it go.
Because I live on Social Security Disability income, I have often wished I had a small business that could bring in a little extra money. Rock painting seems like the perfect fit because it is something I genuinely enjoy. The process itself is calming and therapeutic. I start by coating the rock with Mod Podge, then I let it dry before adding the design. Painting requires patience because I work in layers, taking breaks in between and finishing with another coat of Mod Podge to give the rock a beautiful shine. During that time, I can step away from my everyday worries and become completely immersed in creating something unique.
Art has always been an important part of my life. I enjoy working with oil pastels, paint, colored pencils, and markers. The only creative hobby I have never explored is sewing. It has never really interested me, although I suppose I can’t say for sure whether I would enjoy it without trying it. For now, rock painting remains my favorite artistic escape and, if I can overcome my doubts, it could one day become my favorite side hustle as well.
